Your Limit

I once read about how elephants, a creature able to knock over a tree with its head or lift a log with its trunk,  can be restrained by a short length of rope or chain.

From a young age they are tethered with a heavy metal chain. This results in the elephants being conditioned, which means that during their developmental stages they learn and discover these unbreakable bonds, associating them with their limits, their boundaries and their freedoms.

Therefore when they are of adult age and clearly strong enough to break the bonds, they don't. Still believing they are unbreakable and as a result never really try. From then on only the rope is necessary to restrain them and keep them from breaking their bonds, freeing themselves and realising their strength.

However, I don't believe that this applies purely to the animal kingdom and many people are restricting themselves from what they can achieve, not willing to try, expecting failure.

But what if the elephant did try? Pushing through its limits? Breaking its bonds? Releasing itself into freedom? And realised its strength?

So why don't you?

Please leave a comment, telling me what you think and don't forget to smile because it's almost Christmas
